Welcome to The Color of Guilt

The Color of Guilt is a fast-paced story that develops believable characters facing relatable problems and fighting the same struggles against one’s own inner demons and the system that most of us can relate to.  Making this story more believable is the use of familiar themes, problems and topics woven into one possible vision of the future, to create a very plausible what if story. The Color of Guilt uses the Federal deficit, calls to reform the Department of Justice, and the incendiary hate that is visible daily on social media as the backdrop of a story that includes every human emotion and characters you will love, hate and cheer for. In this vision of the future the department of justice along with all its alphabet federal agencies, prisons and everything you know about the legal system have been replaced by the criminal enforcement regulatory authority, CERA. One feature of this new system is several laws that promote consumer spending as a form of patriotism. Under this new system administered by CERA justice is swift and everyone that has their life interrupted (arrested) for a crime is guilty. The only way to resume their lives is to be redeemed by a Redeemer.

 Redeemers represent the person who was interrupted to negotiate the financial impact and penalties for their crime so they can resume their lives. The sole deterrent in this future is the CEID, the criminal enforcement and identification device, which is simply referred to as ‘The Shirt’. It is in fact much more than just a shirt. It is an insidious abuse of technology with a collar that is hardwired into the wearer's cerebral cortex to regulate aggressive behavior and could easily cause death. The shirts are color coded to display for the world to see the color of the wearer's guilt. To become a shirt is the worst fate that one could suffer. It means you are among the most reviled things known to man and your life is of no value.

Our main character Mike has had a tough life that has been marred by a series of bad choices reinforced by his stubbornness and belief that he could control his own outcomes. He has repeatedly dealt with the consequences of his choices as have those closest to him. But Mike’s life was finally going the way he had always wanted it to and then in the midst of his personal renaissance his old tendencies and demons resurfaced, and he made a series of decisions that forever changed his life. It began with one ego-induced decision that spiraled into a series of increasingly worse decisions and led Mike to the brink of losing everything.

Join Mike as he navigates his life in this fictional future and fights against his own tendencies, betrayal, corruption and the system as he strives to achieve his version of the American dream, happiness, and financial security.

Along the way he learns some of life's biggest lessons and uncovers a secret no one was meant to know that could be the key to resuming his life and exacting his revenge.
